‘Diary of Pamela Voorhees’ – ‘Jason Lives’ Director Reveals His New ‘Friday the 13th’ Screenplay [Exclusive]

The writer and director Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, Tom McLoughlin is a huge fan of the Friday the 13th franchise, so much so that he’s been hungry for many years to get a new Friday project off the ground. Of course, the franchise is shackled at the bottom of a lake due to legal issues at the moment, but that hasn’t stopped McLoughlin from writing scripts. As you may recall, McLoughlin chatted with us back in 2020 about his concept for Jason Never Dies, a screenplay for a direct sequel to Jason Lives that he recently put together. Bloody Disgusting can exclusively reveal that Tom McLoughlin has also come up with an entirely different screenplay for a Friday project, this one titled Diary … [Read More...]

‘Firestarter’ Review – Modern Reimagining of Stephen King’s Novel Fails to Ignite

Bloody Disgusting’s Firestarter review is spoiler-free. The Stephen King renaissance continues with a modern adaptation of his 1980 novel, Firestarter. Considering the lackluster response to the 1984 adaptation, it’s likely long overdue. But the real question is whether there’s any thematic depth or storytelling to mine amidst superhero cinema’s current oversaturation and popularity. While The Vigil director Keith Thomas does get Firestarter off to an energetic and engaging start, this reimaging ultimately fails to ignite. The exposition of how couple Andy (Zac Efron) and Vicky (Sydney Lemmon) gained supernatural abilities, courtesy of an experiment, gets relayed over the opening credits. One nightmare sequence later, Firestarter jumps a decade ahead, where Andy and Vicky attempt to raise their gifted daughter Charlie (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) and … [Read More...]

‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Sequel Reunites ‘The Guest’ Star Dan Stevens with Director Adam Wingard

Per Deadline, Stevens is set to star as the lead of the next feature film installment of the Legendary’s Monsterverse franchise, a direct follow up to 2020’s Godzilla vs. Kong. The actor previously teamed up with Wingard on 2014’s horror thriller The Guest, where he proved his action hero mettle as the eponymous character. Stevens should more than hold his own against the larger-than-life titans. Plot details, of course, remain under wraps for now. The final moments of Godzilla vs. Kong suggested that we could soon be seeing the continuing adventures … [Read More...]

Luis Buñuel’s Belle de Jour (1967)

Belle de Jour (1967) is Luis Buñuel's most famous movie and his biggest commercial hit. It's a fascinating exercise in surrealism and eroticism and it's a movie that is perplexing and challenging, but in a good way. You think you have it all figured out then you watch it a second time and you change your mind completely. An art film that is also utterly entralling.Catherine Deneuve gives her career-best performance. You can find my full review … [Read More...]

The Sister of Ursula (1978)

The Sister of Ursula (La sorella di Ursula) is a 1978 giallo which has all necessary ingredients (including a black-gloved killer) but of course having the right ingredients isn’t always enough. It was written and directed by Enzo Milioni. The movie establishes its exploitation credentials pretty quickly, with entirely gratuitous female frontal nudity within the first few minutes. There’ll be lots more of that as the movie progresses. The fact … [Read More...]

Gwendoline (1984), Blu-Ray review

Just Jaeckin’s Gwendoline is a kinky sexy adventure romp, inspired by the fetish comic strips of John Willie. The movie has a comic book feel. It was destined to be a cult movie from the start. Only a cult audience could appreciate such quirkiness.Jaeckin had made Emmanuelle and The Story of O in the 70s, two of the best-known erotic movies of all time. When he directed Emmanuelle Jaeckin was already a very very successful photographer. He had … [Read More...]
