Another Trailer for Marvel’s ‘Ms. Marvel’ Series Starring Iman Vellani

“If you save one life… you save the world.” Disney has debuted another new 60-second “Destiny” trailer for a new Marvel Studios series Ms. Marvel, a sort of spin-off from Captain Marvel, similar to the Hawkeye series about a nerdy fan of the Avengers who ends up becoming a superhero herself. Ms. Marvel introduces us to Kamala Khan, played by Iman Vellani, a 16-year-old Muslim Pakistani-American from Jersey City, NJ who writes superhero fan fiction. She discovers she has her own polymorphous (shape-shifting) powers. The series cast also includes Aramis Knight as “Red Dagger”, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Matt Lintz, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Nakli, and Azhar Usman. You know, I honestly think this looks pretty dang good. Like… [Read More...]

First Official Trailer for Marvel’s ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’ Series

“We just started a super-human law division, and I want you to be the face of it.” Marvel has revealed the first official trailer for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, one of their next series coming to Disney+ streaming later this year. “You’ll like her when she’s angry,” is the cheesy tagline for this one. Hulk is back! But not the Hulk you know, though he’s in this, too. Time for someone entirely different. The new series introduces us to Jennifer Walters, played by Tatiana Maslany, who becomes a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk. She tries to maintain her job as an attorney while dealing with the challenges of being big & green. It also co-stars Ginger Gonzaga, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Jameela… [Read More...]

DOCTOR STRANGE 2: With Sam Raimi At The Helm, I Expected More MADNESS

Now playing at a multiplex in a multiverse near you:DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS(Dir. Sam Raimi, 2022)It’s not surprising to me that my first press screening since The Before Times would be for a Marvel movie. That’s obviously because there’s so damn many of them – case in point, this Doctor Strange sequel is the 28th film in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). It’s also the sixth time that Benedict Cumberbatch has portrayed the titular master mystic as, apart from his 2016 stand-alone adventure, he has appeared in two AVENGERS movies, one THOR entry, and only several months ago was a major player in the super successful SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME. So why does the character still not feel fully fleshed out to … [Read More...]

Charlie Cox Snuck Into A ‘Spider-Man’ Screening To Hear Cheering During His Cameo, But It Was ‘Dead F*cking Quiet’

Netflix He wasn’t the biggest cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home (that honor belongs to Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, which no longer counts as a spoiler), but Charlie Cox showing up as Matt Murdock / Daredevil still got a big pop in the opening night screening I went to. That was not the case in the theater he was in, however. “It’s funny, I got so many text messages and so many calls about that moment in the cinema. My nephew sent me a recording of everyone cheering. So I snuck into a movie theater near where I live and literally stood in the corridor… and, sadly, my experience was it was dead f*cking quiet,” Cox told Radio Times. He continued: &#… [Read More...]

Luis Buñuel’s Belle de Jour (1967)

Belle de Jour (1967) is Luis Buñuel's most famous movie and his biggest commercial hit. It's a fascinating exercise in surrealism and eroticism and it's a movie that is perplexing and challenging, but in a good way. You think you have it all figured out then you watch it a second time and you change your mind completely. An art film that is also utterly entralling.Catherine Deneuve gives her career-best performance. You can find my full review … [Read More...]

The Sister of Ursula (1978)

The Sister of Ursula (La sorella di Ursula) is a 1978 giallo which has all necessary ingredients (including a black-gloved killer) but of course having the right ingredients isn’t always enough. There’ll be lots more of that as the movie progresses. The fact … [Read More...]

Gwendoline (1984), Blu-Ray review

Just Jaeckin’s Gwendoline is a kinky sexy adventure romp, inspired by the fetish comic strips of John Willie. The movie has a comic book feel. It was destined to be a cult movie from the start. When he directed Emmanuelle Jaeckin was already a very very successful photographer. He had … [Read More...]
