Alex Proyas has been MIA from the feature film scene since 2016’s “Gods of Egypt,” which fizzled at the box office despite its large scale and impressive cast, and that’s not great. Proyas has turned in masterpieces and head-scratchers over the last 30 years, but one thing is always consistent with his work: he swings for the fences. That guy is not afraid to go big, go weird, and hope that the audience follows along. All you have to do is look at his filmography and you’ll see that thread time and again. Starting with “The Crow,” his fantastic follow-up “Dark City,” “I, Robot,” and the absolutely bonkers Nicolas Cage film “Knowing,” Proyas has always prioritized the odd and unusual in … [Read More...]
Mondo’s New Rick And Morty Figure Includes Mr. Meeseeks And Mr. Poopybutthole
It has been three long years since Mondo released their first high-end set of figures based on the highly popular, absurd sci-fi comedy “Rick and Morty.” Something happened between 2019 and this year of our lord 2022, but I can’t quite remember what world-changing event took place. Whatever happened, Mondo just announced a second set of “Rick and Morty” figures that will make you smile and just might even help your golf game. The original set introduced the title characters and Series 2 brings Big Arm Morty and Mr. Meeseeks (Happy Version) to the hearts and shelves of fans everywhere. These pieces are substantial, too. Mr. Meeseeks stands 11.5 inches tall and Big Arm Morty is 8.5 inches tall. As an extra bonus, if you bought the first … [Read More...]
Lupita Nyong’o Leaves Apple TV+ Crime Series Lady In The Lake
Lupita Nyong’o has dropped out of the upcoming Apple TV+ series, “Lady in the Lake,” based on the New York Times-bestselling crime novel by Laura Lippman. Nyong’o was set to costar opposite Natalie Portman, who is also executive producing the series, which is currently in production. However, she has reportedly exited the project and the search is now underway for a new actress to serve as the co-lead.No reason was given for Nyong’o’s departure from “Lady in the Lake,” but Variety likens it to when she stepped down two years ago from another streaming adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s “Americanh.” An HBO Max series was on the way, but the production ultimately ran into trouble due to “scheduling issues caused by … [Read More...]
This Is Going To Hurt Trailer: Ben Whishaw Delivers Heartfelt Laughs And A Lot Of Babies
Ben Whishaw may be known for playing Q in three of the Daniel Craig “James Bond” installments, but more importantly, he is also the voice of Paddington f****** Bear, the loveliest protagonist ever put to film. In a brand new series from AMC+, Whishaw brings that wonderful energy to “This Is Going To Hurt,” a medical comedy-drama set in the gynecology and obstetrics ward of a British hospital. The series is inspired by creator Adam Kay’s memoir of the same name, exploring the hilarity, heartache, and heartwarming moments that can only take place in the “brats and twats” section of the hospital, as Whishaw’s Dr. Kay calls it.This announcement may be old news for some of our non-American readers, as “This Is Going … [Read More...]
Netflix Is Expanding Its Subtitling And Audio Description Options For Disabled Viewers
In honor of Global Accessibility Awareness Day, Netflix is boosting its accessibility features, including audio descriptions (AD) and subtitles for deaf and hard of hearing (SDH) people. As someone who developed tinnitus pretty young (who knows why, but also it was probably from concerts), I live in an all subtitles all of the time state of mind, but anything Netflix can do to make their content more accessible is not only worth it, it’s vital. While you could easily argue that Netflix has dropped the ball recently with the news that they’re cracking down on password sharing, possibly implementing ads, and spending ungodly amounts of money, it’s hard to see a downside to this. The biggest changes include expanding the number of titles with ADs and SDHs … [Read More...]

And ask them to buy a set for me as well, because my birthday is very soon! New Yellowstone Spin-Off Pivots To Focus On True-Life Legendary Badass Bass Reeves
“Bass Reeves” was originally a standalone limited series that was coming to Paramount+ with Taylor Sheridan, but it’s morphed a bit. Now, according to the MTV Entertainment Studios upfront presentation (via Deadline), it’s going to be a new chapter in the “Yellowstone” prequel “1883.” It’s an interesting move and one that I think is very positive. The story of “1883” and why the Duttons settled exactly where they did had, for all intents and purposes, ended at a natural stopping place. Though there was originally chatter about a second season, Sheridan finally said the story was finished. Now it’s continuing as “1883: The Bass Reeves Story,” and this is not only going to get people familiar with a badass person from American history, but … [Read More...]
An Episode From Love, Death + Robots Season 3 Is Available To Watch Now
Season 3 of Netflix’s “Love, Death + Robots” doesn’t drop until this Friday, May 20, 2022, but it seems the folks at the massive streamer couldn’t help but drop an episode early.Surely, you know about “Love, Death + Robots” by now, but on the off chance you’ve missed out, it’s a series of animated shorts produced by Tim Miller (“Deadpool”) and David Fincher (“The Social Network,” “Zodiac,” “Mindhunter”… pretty much all great things, really). These shorts can be about anything. There have been episodes about werewolves fighting, aliens attacking, hard sci-fi noir, and battle monsters being piloted by human controllers. Then there are the “Three Robots” shorts, which are based on the story by John Scalzi, and feature (you guessed it) three robots as they go … [Read More...]
Queer As Folk Trailer: The Heart Of Club Babylon Continues Beating
The reimagining of “Queer as Folk” will hit Peacock in a few short weeks, and we’ve finally been blessed with a trailer that gives us a better look at our soon-to-be favorites, giving us a stronger idea of just what these new folks will be tackling this season. The original series began in 1999 in the U.K., followed by a two-season U.S. series in 2000, both of which were seminal programs for queer people across the globe, debuting in a world where marriage equality didn’t exist, “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was firmly in place, and transgenderism was still classified as a mental illness. Two decades later, the world looks a lot different for the LGBTQIA+ community in many ways, but in others, things are … [Read More...]
Elton John Documentary Yellow Brick Road Will Stream On Disney+
It looks like Disney is hungry for more classic rock and roll documentaries. We all saw how well Peter Jackson’s “Get Back” turned out and now Disney+ is going to be the home for another doc about the final performance of a rock and roll legend. On the docket for the growing streamer is “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road: The Final Elton John Performances and The Years That Made His Legend,” which follows the flashy music icon on his final live North American tour (which is happening as we speak). It will also serve as the final word on Elton John’s legacy with new interviews, never-before-scene concert footage from throughout his career, and a present-day look at his personal family life.”Goodbye Yellow Brick … [Read More...]
The Flight Attendant Director Silver Tree Will Helm Fatal Attraction Series
“Fatal Attraction” is having some sort of resurgence right now. Is it because we’re all craving a weird, sexy thriller? That’s got to be a yes because every time is the right time for a weird, sexy thriller, but what’s the real catalyst? If I’m being honest with myself, I’m probably just marveling at the coincidence that the New York Times podcast “Still Processing” just released an episode about “Fatal Attraction,” but that’s enough of synchronicity for me. Whether it’s true or not, it feels like “Fatal Attraction” is having a moment, and that erotic thrillers, in general, are about to come back to life. With all of my musing out of the way (sike! Get ready for more in a few sentences), it looks like … [Read More...]

Edie Falco To Play Pete Davidson’s Mom In Peacock’s Biographical Comedy Series Bupkis
Is there something we didn’t know about Pete Davidson’s life? If there is, that will be remedied soon, friends. At the NBC Universal Upfront presentation today, we learned from the Peacock segment that the role of Davidson’s mom has been cast for the upcoming autobiographical comedy “Bupkis.” What? You say you aren’t a writer, but you could probably pen a comedy about him because every third news story is about him and his personal life/tattoos/relationship? Samesies.I am 100% kidding, honestly. If someone is going to be in the news this much, it’s nice that it’s someone so likable. And the mom of this very likable person is going to be played by Edie Falco, she of “Nurse Jackie” and “The Sopranos.” The … [Read More...]
The Staircase Documentary Filmmakers Feel ‘Betrayed’ By Inaccuracies In HBO Max Series
The makers of the original 2004 docuseries “The Staircase” — the basis for the current dramatized HBO Max miniseries starring Colin Firth and Toni Colette — are alleging that the miniseries undermines the credibility of their work. “The Staircase” won a Peabody Award in 2005, and reviews for the new miniseries, created by Antonio Campos, have been positive. Both the original docuseries and the miniseries currently hold a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, Jean-Xavier de Lestrade, the director of the docuseries, and Sophie Brunet, one of the editors who worked on it, maintain that Campos abused their trust and presents inaccurate depictions in his series. In “The Staircase” miniseries, Firth stars as Michael Peterson, the real-life crime novelist accused of murdering his wife, Kathleen Peterson, played by … [Read More...]
Only Murders In The Building Reunion As Steve Martin Invents The Whoopie Cushion On SNL
Back in the day, you could get whoopee cushions or hand buzzers or fake vomit from mail-away ads in the back of comic books or your local novelty store. Now, you’re more likely to find that stuff in a dollar store or a hidden corner of the toy section of a big box store since many specialty shops have unfortunately gone the way of the dodo. Thanks, capitalism. But have you ever wondered where some of those classic joke shop gags really came from? Selena Gomez and “Saturday Night Live” recently took the time to shine the spotlight on the people that brought these comedic staples to life, in a fictional (and hilarious) documentary. While hosting the long-running late night sketch show alongside musical guest … [Read More...]
Firestarter Director Keith Thomas On Streamlining Stephen King & Starting Some Fires [Interview]
“Firestarter” is one of Stephen King’s more medium-sized epics. Still, turning the +500 pages family horror drama into 90-minute thriller is a herculean task. To do so, director Keith Thomas and screenwriter Scott Teems focus largely on the central chase, with Charlie (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) and Andy McGee (Zac Efron) on the run from shadowy government figures. There’s a lot of material from the book hinted at and suggested, but for Thomas, he felt the best way to adapt King was simply to get the characters right. The author himself signed off on the director after seeing Thomas’ previous movie, “The Vigil.” Now, Thomas doesn’t just have the novel and the original film adaptation to live up to, but as he told us, the entire … [Read More...]
Charlize Theron Shares Behind-The-Scenes Look At Her Marvel Cinematic Universe Debut
Note: This article contains spoilers for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.””Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is a Marvel movie that doesn’t exactly feel like a Marvel movie. Sure, it has all the connective tissue that Marvel Cinematic Universe films are duty-bound to have, but horror filmmaker Sam Raimi delights in derailing viewer expectations for pretty much its entire runtime. So when the wild ride of a movie ended with a decidedly expected mid-credits scene, the return to standard Marvel format was a little disappointing. But we really can’t complain too much, because the result of that tonally dissonant epilogue is a fantastic actress, Charlize Theron, joining the MCU.The actress will play Clea, a character who in comic books appears … [Read More...]
