Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Review: Far Less Than Super

The idea behind Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is a good one, even if it’s not all that original. Similar to Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion, this platform fighter brings together a smattering of cartoon characters from the childhoods of several generations and looks to replicate the party game fun of Super Smash Bros. However, the punch is rotten, the clown no-showed, and this party is one you were better off not going to. While, despite some jokes online, it was never destined to rival competitive Super Smash Bros. Melee, All-Star Brawl makes a poor first impression and things only get worse from there. The first thing players notice upon getting into a match is that the combat feels mushy. Punches are imprecise, the movement … [Read More...]

Report: Kojima Productions Is Behind Alleged Sony-Funded Silent Hill Game

Konami is slowly getting back to putting out games again as evidenced by an earlier official partnership with Bloober Team and an unofficial report stating that it was reviving three of its biggest franchises: Silent Hill, Castlevania, and Metal Gear Solid. That report said that two Silent Hill games were in development: one from Bloober and one from an unnamed Japanese studio. And now yet another report has claimed that that mystery studio is Kojima Productions. This comes from Gematsu who claims to have a “publishing source that wishes to remain anonymous.” This small addendum to the original VideoGamesChronicle report simply says that Kojima Productions is developing a Silent Hill game and Sony is helping fund it. Luis Buñuel’s Belle de Jour (1967)

Belle de Jour (1967) is Luis Buñuel's most famous movie and his biggest commercial hit. It's a fascinating exercise in surrealism and eroticism and it's a movie that is perplexing and challenging, but in a good way. You think you have it all figured out then you watch it a second time and you change your mind completely. An art film that is also utterly entralling.Catherine Deneuve gives her career-best performance. You can find my full review … [Read More...]

The Sister of Ursula (La sorella di Ursula) is a 1978 giallo which has all necessary ingredients (including a black-gloved killer) but of course having the right ingredients isn’t always enough. There’ll be lots more of that as the movie progresses. The fact … [Read More...]

Only a cult audience could appreciate such quirkiness.Jaeckin had made Emmanuelle and The Story of O in the 70s, two of the best-known erotic movies of all time. When he directed Emmanuelle Jaeckin was already a very very successful photographer. He had … [Read More...]
